Bond
After you are arrested for a DUI, the police officer will transport
you to the jail. You will be allowed to post bond, commonly known as
bail.
If you are arrested for a misdemeanor DUI, bond has been typically
established for DUI charges. Depending upon the state and the county,
your bond can be a recognizance bond or may be several hundred dollars.
A recognizance bond is a bond in which you sign a piece of paper and
promise to return to court on a future date.
On any type of bond, you typically agree not to leave the state in which
you were arrested. In addition, you promise to comply with all statutes.
If you are arrested for another offense while on bond, the prosecuting agency
may petition to revoke your previous bond or increase the original bond.
You must appear at that future court date or a warrant for your arrest may
be issued. In addition, any money that was posted may be forfeited to the state.
